Art Of The Grid

Grid Shelves

It’s not a particularly cool thing to admit but being a designer I really love grids. The first thing I discovered recently (via my friend and fountain of web developer knowledge Mark) was Blueprint a super robust CSS framework. I’ve not had a chance to apply it to a proper site yet but I had a quick play with it and it looks like it will save a lot of time re-treading old ground. One thing I am really impressed with is the baseline grid anyway I will post more on my experience with blueprint when I have a chance to use it more extensively.

So as a gridophile (sounds kind of creepy) I was stoked to find The Art Of The Grid a site built with our sort in mind. Notepads based on popular grids and even shelves built on famous grid systems. Check out these Guardian shelves.

Blink Issue 1 - Out now

blinkmagI just recently got done designing the layout for Blink Magazine and now it’s out in stores for a cost of nothing. Brought to you by the same guys behind Fused Magazine Blink is aimed at Fused readers who have “grown up a bit”. It’s available in all usual places in Birmingham and a few new posh ones, Harvey Nichols and Selfidges (my mum will be so impressed). It’s a pretty interesting read if you are interested in interior design, designer fashion and art. I think it’s rather nicely designed too.

There is a feature in there about designer plates that made me want to go and buy expensive plates. I guess they’re doing their job right there.

Get it made

Something I should have posted about sooner but you know how it goes… After a brief stint making fancy flash sites and viral campaigns for the guys at Codemasters. I am now working for my old friends at Made Media and it’s great. We have been working on some really interesting projects. So thanks for the fun times everyone at team Codemasters, especially Andy, Nik and Cheryl and thanks for the opportunity Jake, Josh and Tim I’m proud to be one of the team.

Concrete 2 Canvas Promo Copy

Concrete 2 Canvas: More Skateboarders Art

I have recently procured a preview copy of Concrete 2 Canvas, which I designed and have a section in. This is a little bit late now news-wise, but since the book is not out until October I thought I’d still post a quick shot of the cover and say how stoked I am with the outcome. Hopefully it’ll sell millions of copies and make Laurence King happy people. Maybe they’ll hire me again…

Since this is the first entire book I’ve put together I am pretty blown away and I have prepared a short speech. I’d just like to thank everyone involved. Especially Jo for being an amazing editor, everyone at Laurence King for being supercool to work with. Thomas Campbell for the killer cover, Lori D for her beautiful foreword and for pulling it out the bag artistically right up against the deadline. Also I have to thank fellow Outcrowders Logger, Peplow and Basford for hook-ups and casting their critical eyes over the book as I was tinkering away on it.

Oh yeah while I am at it thanks to light-fingered Stevie and generous Kerry.
